On my old machine I got a cool version of lilo running with a bmp in the background. It just looks so much cooler than default lilo. The previous one was 800x600, and the vesa fb code was accordingly 800x600. Now I have a 1024x768 bitmap and vesa code 791 (1024x768x64k). I edited lilo.conf, and I get the message - bitmap not supported. Here is my lilo.conf global section:
# LILO configuration file
# generated by 'liloconfig'
#
# Start LILO global section
boot = /dev/hda
compact # faster, but won't work on all systems.
prompt
timeout = 100
vga=791
# ramdisk = 0 # paranoia setting
map = /boot/map-bmp
install=/boot/boot-bmp.b
bitmap = /boot/lilo4.bmp
bmp-colors = 15,,0;5,,15
bmp-table = 59,5,1,18,
bmp-timer= 66,28,6,8,0
# End LILO global section
# Linux bootable partition config begins
yes, I put the file (lilo4.bmp) in /boot
I noticed my old pic was not very awesome looking, it was grainy, and had a bad color set. This new one is very awesome, a 32bit bitmap file I played with in photoshop. What is probably my problem here? -Bill
Or - If anyone knows of a way to get a 32-bit, 1024x768 bitmap image to load with the bootloader - that would work too!

you are changing some things.
framebuffer != lilo splash screen.
the lilo screen that you mean, can not be larger than 640x480 - afaik.
there is a gimp script to build lilo images.
the setup with vga=blah_blah is for your framebuffer console.
this is a long story.
take a look at lilo doc and everything will be fine

Right right - I get it now! The vga setting is all for framebuffer, not the lilo splash screen. Now, is there ANY way to get a big beautiful lilo splash screen? (1024x768) -Bill
Oh ok - well here I go getting complicated and stuff, but is there any way at all to do this? I'm envisioning someone with a crazy, fully custom bootloader to have the answer here, but I'm willing to learn something crazy and new to get this. Seriously, it's a pretty cool pic I want to load in.
