Help!!!

I am currently using suse 7.0 (i have also tried mandrake 7.1) but either have the same problem

on suse when booting up it gets to setting up cmos clock and hangs I have to press the sysrq/print scrn key twice to bypass it) on mandrake it happens when configuring kernel parameters appears but i think its for the same reason can any body help me please??

also is there any hope of me getting my us robotics/3com 56k int voice modem to connect to the internet or am i going to have to shell out for a external modem??

otherwise i think linux is great and when i get in on suse i generally seem to be fine (although mandrake didn not recognise my cdrom - suse does!)

Is the USR modem a winmodem? As for the freezing at the CMOS clock, that is strange. What kind of computer is it?

aggh I just typed all this out and then windoze goes and freezes on me so here we go again, re the modem I am unsure to be honest if it is a winmodem I would probably guess at yes basically its a pci card style sorry for the ignorance but until i started using linux I hadnt heard the term winmodem before.

As for the PC, It's Home Built but the general spec is a gigabyte alladin ga-5ax motherboard, 400mhz amd k6-2 3d now processor, 192mb sdram (pc 100), soundblaster awe64 card, ati xpert@work graphic card (that was a mistake meant to get @play when i bought it a long time ago), videologic powervr apocalypse 3d card, samsung 20 speed cd rom, 30gb hard drive udma and a 2gb hard drive dma, a couple of things need updating but hey!, so anyway I hope this helps you to help me, but if you need me to check out anything on the system 1st no problem, and thanks for replying!!
