Can't find alsaconf

Hi. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't seem to find alsaconf. I've installed the alsa driver and kernel-module alsa from the source rpms. I've alsa rebuilt the source rpm for alsa-utils, and installed that. But, I don't seem to have alsaconf on my computer. I've had a look at alsa-tools, and that doesn't seem to supply alsaconf. This is all wth redhat9. At home, with fedora core 1, I had no trouble at all installing alsa, including using alsaconf.

So, excuse the (I'm sure) stupid question, but what package includes alsaconf?

Thanks in anticipation,

Ross-c

alsaconf is included in the alsa-utils package, at least in the official packages (alsa-utils-1.0.5.tar.bz2).

The problem may be that you don't have /usr/sbin (where it is usually located) in your $PATH, so try typing /usr/sbin/alsaconf instead. alsaconf requires dialog so make sure you have it installed or it will bark at you.

I'm using an older version of alsa-utils compatible with rpm packages for redhat 9. Alsa-utils 0.9.8-1 doesn't include alsaconf, it appears:

rpm -q -p alsa-utils-0.9.8-1.fr.i386.rpm --filesbypkg
alsa-utils /etc/rc.d/init.d/alsactl
alsa-utils /etc/rc0.d/S01alsactl
alsa-utils /etc/rc6.d/S01alsactl
alsa-utils /usr/bin/aconnect
alsa-utils /usr/bin/alsamixer
alsa-utils /usr/bin/amixer
alsa-utils /usr/bin/aplay
alsa-utils /usr/bin/arecord
alsa-utils /usr/bin/aseqnet
alsa-utils /usr/sbin/alsactl
alsa-utils /usr/share/doc/alsa-utils-0.9.8
alsa-utils /usr/share/doc/alsa-utils-0.9.8/COPYING
alsa-utils /usr/share/doc/alsa-utils-0.9.8/ChangeLog
alsa-utils /usr/share/doc/alsa-utils-0.9.8/README
alsa-utils /usr/share/doc/alsa-utils-0.9.8/TODO
alsa-utils /usr/share/man/man1/aconnect.1.gz
alsa-utils /usr/share/man/man1/alsactl.1.gz
alsa-utils /usr/share/man/man1/alsamixer.1.gz
alsa-utils /usr/share/man/man1/amixer.1.gz
alsa-utils /usr/share/man/man1/aplay.1.gz
alsa-utils /usr/share/man/man1/arecord.1.gz
alsa-utils /usr/share/man/man1/aseqnet.1.gz

So, the solution is to install the latest versions. I must have installed more up to date versions at home.

Cheers,

Ross-c
