Wubi? wubi uses a virtual disk and does not repartition the hard drive.

Sorry for the confusion, Ubuntu Server has no 'try' option.

I've just downloaded an image and tried out an install in a virtual machine and everything went fine, so you might have done something wrong at some point, possibly when partitioning your hard drive. Which options did you use for that?

Since you mentioned wubi in a earlier post I assume this was how Ubuntu was "installed" A wubi installation create a virtual disk at c:\ubuntu\disks\root.disk and a swap file at c:\ubuntu\disks\swap.disk.

Could you report (approximatively) what happened after you selected 'install ubuntu server'? Normally, you are offered to pick language, keyboard and a few other things, then (at some point and after some time) *partitioning* options.

Hi Michaelk,

We've already been down that road. I can run Linux from a CD, from a USB and now from Wubi. I just never get the opportunity to install it. How do I prompt Linux to install?

Hi,

I was offered that a week ago. Once, the machine crashed during install. Since then I have never been offered that. I think because it sees some remnant of that install and skips that process. The problem is that I'm stuck in a Linux install limbo. I need to find out how to do a full uninstall so I can start over, or prompt a full install so I can finish the job.

As I previously told you, as long as you're really booting from USB, you don't have to care about what's on your hard drive. That's why I asked you to
1- make sure you're really booting from USB (and if not, let us know)
2- tell us what happens then

Hi,

You guys are killing me. How in the world am I supposed to verify if it is booting from the USB drive? Do you have a magical bit readind device that I don't know about?

The computer boots from wherever it wants. Bios is a logical mess. And here is where I ended up after downloading Ubuntu 12.04 to disc and to the flash drive.

This is ridiculous.
