No visual difference, just use a Desktop
wallpaper / background by your choice,
to get what you like.
And copy the Ubuntu 9.04 /etc/X11/xorg.config,
..... which you of course keep as a backup .....
to Ubuntu 9.10 /etc/X11/ to get the resolution,
you are used to.
Then you shouldn't notice, that you are using
a different Ubuntu.
... Or was it another problem ? ?
.....
The result was devastating. Almost nothing worked well.
Extremely slow, just horrible results across the board.
I have been using Ubuntu for a couple of years or more and this was the worst experience I have ever had.
I'll just stay with 9.04 until the experts fix it.
Sound went completely and utterly awful. Not playing, loud noises, pops and crackles, utterly terrible. I admit I upgraded early, but the problems didn't go away when official release came. It didn't take me long to trace the problem to pulseaudio. It's a cool bit of software, but frankly it's gross over-engineering for the majority of users and should not be included by default. I removed it, but upgrades put it back again.
That's when I decided to jump ship. I had other minor niggles with Ubuntu too, and was losing confidence in it. I'm now using Arch Linux, and very happy indeed.
