Mint 18 Full disk encryption VS Veracrypt Full Disk encryption: Help a Noob Decide Please !

For years I was using Quiana, and its full disk encryption option. I felt safe. I am not in national security, but I have sensitive files (financial, etc.) I need to protect .

So I have not tried yet to use Veracrypt to fully encrypt a disk, and then install linux onto it. Is this a tricky thing to do ? Yes I know a glut of tutorials are out there, but alas, I am kind of old 'n'dumb. Is it easy ?

Then while I was perusing to make sure that Mint still had the full disk encryption built into the installer, I stumble across this :

https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2026.

*This basically made my brain fall out of the back of my head like an unsecured mobo.

So I could probably skip all that extra stuff hes doing ?

**My major problem with linux is that I am a hunt and peck typer, and consoles can have me like a medieval scribe in the middle of the night, forever backspacing and correcting.**

Thanks for any thoughts, and I do believe it is the right and duty of every free citizen to encrypt to their hearts content.

I'm not a massive fan of encryption, but I have set up (so-called) "full-disk" Mint system.
Piece of cake, and seemed to work as advertised.

"so-called" because the /boot (and /boot/efi for UEFI) wasn't encrypted. With which I agree. The paper you linked above does try to encrypt the /boot - for no gain IMHO. Just stick the install USB in and follow the prompts.
Never used {True,Vera}crypt.

If you really intend to encrypt the entire disk, I suggest that you buy a disk drive that supports encryption on-board in the drive hardware. (Only) These implementations can do the job without suffering a performance penalty.
