XF86.SVGA Missing - Please Help!

Hi,

I am running RedHat 7.2 and needed to change a dud video card. On doing so RedHat detected the new card etc and then rebooted itself. It now boots up in text mode (not Gnome etc) and when i start Xconfigurator it says Server doesn't exist, can't continue. tried to use ../..usr/XR11R6/bin/XF_86SVGA

Can someone please advise how to fix this?

Thnaking you in return

Do "XFree86 -version". If your running XFree86 version 4.x, I don't think it uses that driver anymore.
You might try renaming your existing XF86Config (or XF86Config-4 for version 4) and letting Xconfigurator build a new one.

What's the model of the vid card?

Hi DMR,

Thanks for your time.

The new card was a Cirrus Logic 5346. I ended up putting the old card back in, which was detected and i was able to reconfigure it to work no probs. Even using Xconfigurator presented no troubles.

Real strange. I will try as you suggessted to rename the file and hopefully Xconfigurator will make a new one.

Regards,

Greg
