Tomcat Start remotely

Hi

I tried to start tomcat remotely, It's not coming up. Locally it's seems working fine.

I tried command ssh remoteserver sh catalina.sh start and startup.sh

but It's not working.

Using CATALINA_BASE: /opt/tomcat/6.0.29/apache-tomcat-6.0.29
Using CATALINA_HOME: /opt/tomcat/6.0.29/apache-tomcat-6.0.29
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /opt/tomcat/6.0.29/apache-tomcat-6.0.29/temp
Using CATALINA_OUT: /opt/tomcat/6.0.29/apache-tomcat-6.0.29
Using JRE_HOME: /usr/java/jre-1.6.0-sun
Using CLASSPATH: /opt/tomcat/6.0.29/apache-tomcat-6.0.29/bin/bootstrap.jar

Logs seems ok to me..but It's not coming up

one more thing..i am preassuming there is problem with below line...
>> "$CATALINA_OUT" 2>&1 &

if some one has idea..please help me out with this problem

Which logs look OK? How about logs/catalina.out?

There is no log in catalina.out... I am preassuming when it's trying to add log that's where tomcat is not coming up.

I ran catalina run It's working fine.but statup.sh is not working as expected...

So:
  • check ownership and permissions on catalina.out and its parent directory/ies.
  • check which user Tomcat is running as.

So when you start Tomcat "remotely" (via ssh) it's not working; when you start Tomcat "locally" (i.e. logged in directly at the server) it is working.

Is any logging happening in either case? Sounds like there may be some fundamental problem here, like CATALINA_HOME not being set properly. It's not clear in your first post whether Tomcat spit that out after a successful start or a fail.

Locally tomcat starting and remotely when I am using SSH tomcat is not starting.

Using CATALINA_BASE: /opt/tomcat/6.0.29/apache-tomcat-6.0.29
Using CATALINA_HOME: /opt/tomcat/6.0.29/apache-tomcat-6.0.29
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /opt/tomcat/6.0.29/apache-tomcat-6.0.29/temp
Using CATALINA_OUT: /opt/tomcat/6.0.29/apache-tomcat-6.0.29/logs/catalina.out
Using JRE_HOME: /usr/java/jre-1.6.0-sun
Using CLASSPATH: /opt/tomcat/6.0.29/apache-tomcat-6.0.29/bin/bootstrap.jar

I am seeing same log remotly and locally also...

I think something is getting lost in translation between us. It sounds like there is an environment difference between your local session and your shell session. Normally you review catalina.out, determine the problem, and fix it.

You say you're "seeing [the] same log" -- what log are you talking about, if not catalina.out??
