The files are there...probably...you haven’t told us you’ve confirmed that...but I also don’t know what the issue is with the GUI file manager.
You should start a new thread about that. This thread is done IMO...
The confusion over empty folders may be from the GUI file explorer and the way it's configured. It seems to be providing less than precise information. While there are no files in alexfolders, there are certainly subdirectories. I don't know what Gnome uses for a file explorer, nor how to configure it, and have no interest in learning. There should be help files available, usually through a Help button, but I don't know Gnome, so I can't say where they are. You can try opening another thread for that, or visiting Ubuntu-specific forums. There should be Ubuntu gurus here, though, and Gnome gnomes, who can help with configuring it to show subdirectories.
One thing that puzzles me is that all the subdirectories in the listing from ls show creation dates well into the future, as far as October 18 2020. I don't know how that happened, unless your computer is using a very wrong date/time. That might or might not have some bearing on what the GUI is showing. In any case, the files are in place, and can be accessed from the command line. You just have to figure out how to use the GUI properly. I can't help with that.
Once again, many thanks
Yes, I will need to figure it out. I have two GUI file managers, both with the same problem
The forward date is another problem am pondering about from the start. My Timezone is set to GMT + 10 and that is correct and have no idea how to fix this - a topic for another thread.

Yes, I will try to find how to mark it as solved
Thanks again for the time you have spent on it
Cheers
At the top of the page, click on Thread Tools and click the Mark Solved choice.
The time zone isn't the primary problem with the creation date issue. Some of those files show that they were created as much as two months in the future. One possibility is that your system has the wrong date set, and that date may keep changing, for reasons I don't know. File creation dates can also be changed by other means. I don't have nearly enough information to make a wag, much less an informed guess. But you do need to look into that, eventually. It's not an emergency, but something to be done in due time. You can run
Code:
date
in a terminal to see what your computer thinks the time and date are.

Thanks again, the following is the result of the above command:
Code:
alex@alex-nuc8i7hnk:~$ date

I still have to manually type the code / code ... Is there a simple way instead?
Keeps glitching, the page I'm writing my post on keeps disappearing, and a previous one shows up. I may need to troubleshoot my mouse or Firefox. Most forums let you delete your posts, but this one doesn't seem to allow that.
#94 refers to post number 94. All posts in a thread are numbered, and the number is shown in the top right corner of each post. This is post #113 (!) of this thread.
To get the advanced editor, click the Go Advanced button at the bottom of the input box. There is a toolbar at the top of the advanced editor box, and you click the button with # to insert code tags automatically, and you paste the code between the tags.
I am using whetever the forum has here
What is #94?
Where is the advanced toolbar button?
Can you please send me a screen shot pointing out where should I look
Thanks
Alex
Don’t know how to say it clearer...SEE THE SCREEN SHOT IN POST NUMBER 94 IN THIS THREAD...
The advanced editor happens by using the Post Reply button or the Go Advanced button in the quick reply.
Iclicked now, the post reply button, by response to you now, doesn't include quoting your message in my reply.
Yes, I looked at the screenshot in #94, that's how I understood how to use it.

Go to the post you want to reply to, and click on the "Quote" button. That will open an advanced editor window, with the contents of the post between quote tags.

No, you can’t delete posts here. You can edit to remove the content, as you’ve already done.
The idea is that what folks say here is “permanent”, so that future visitors can learn from it....so removing content from one of your posts Is a reasonable thing to do if it doesn’t contribute to the discussion. IMO your posts usually do make a contribution. ;:
