As you can see, this in terminal mode, not in GUI

So, where are the backup files? What do I need to do to see them?

Thanks
Change the ownership as previously advised.

So you need to check the man page to see how to make the chown be recursive on your system.

Enter man chown on the command line. Space bar advances a page. Enter advances one line. b to go back a page. man man and man less

OK, I ran the following :
Code:
alex@alex-nuc8i7hnk:~$ ls -l /media/New-SD-512
total 12
drwxr-xr-x 4 urbackup urbackup 4096 Aug 23 10:47 mybackup

drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Aug 23 08:08 sun
alex@alex-nuc8i7hnk:~$ sudu chown -R alex:alex /media/New-SD-512
Then, I ran it again
Code:
alex@alex-nuc8i7hnk:~$ ls -l /media/New-SD-512
total 12
drwxr-xr-x 4 alex alex 4096 Aug 23 10:47 mybackup
drwxr-xr-x 3 alex alex 4096 Aug 23 10:19 sat
drwxr-xr-x 3 alex alex 4096 Aug 23 08:08 sun
The sat folder is empty - either in Terminal or in GUI

(Thanks for using code tags!)
You aren’t checking the contents if sat or sun. You’re only checking the contents of New-SD-512.
Keep drilling down...or add a /* to that command.

OK, I followed and did this:
Code:
alex@alex-nuc8i7hnk:~$ ls -l /media/New-SD-512/sun/alexfolders
total 84
drwxr-xr-x 7 alex alex 12288 Sep 18 2020 A-Beleura-Village
drwxr-xr-x 4 alex alex 4096 Sep 18 2020 A-BeleuraWeb
drwxr-xr-x 3 alex alex 4096 Aug 22 11:18 A-BondsandStocks
drwxr-xr-x 8 alex alex 36864 Aug 20 08:48 A-DOCS
drwxr-xr-x 6 alex alex 4096 Aug 21 18:53 A-DT_Ubuntu
drwxr-xr-x 2 alex alex 4096 Oct 18 2020 A-Exit
drwxr-xr-x 22 alex alex 4096 Oct 7 2020 A-NMAA_New
drwxr-xr-x 7 alex alex 4096 Oct 18 2020 A-Photo_Albums
drwxr-xr-x 6 alex alex 4096 Oct 18 2020 A-Sakura_Sushi
drwxr-xr-x 7 alex alex 4096 Sep 18 2020 A-Sq-125
drwxr-xr-x 2 alex alex 4096 Sep 15 2020 'System Volume Information'
But, when I ran the chown - it says that I am already setup this way

Code:
alex@alex-nuc8i7hnk:~$ sudo chown -vR alex:alex /media/alex/New-SD-512/sun
[sudo] password for alex:
ownership of '/media/alex/New-SD-512/sun/alexfolders' retained as alex:alex
ownership of '/media/alex/New-SD-512/sun' retained as alex:alex
So, who is the owner that can see the content? Should I call Trump?

Sorry
Alex

The code tags, I enter them manually - is there an easier way?

Thanks
Alex

Sorry, that should be -R, not -r. The parameters are case sensitive, and I was going from memory, which isn't always reliable.

Yes. Highlight what you want to wrap and use the # button in the toolbar... didn’t I say that already?

As a teachable comment for Alex...everything in Linux is case sensitive. I think he figured it out from the man page, tho.

You are the owner of sun. I don't know about others. You should change the owner of the entire card. You probably aren't seeing the files because you aren't going deep enough into the folder hierarchy. The way you've set things up, there are some empty folders above the ones that actually have the files.

The -R changed the owner on all the files and directories. You won’t need to do it again.

Doesn’t that list look exactly like a list of the source? You are seeing the content.
If you want to see what’s in A-Exit, for example, you need to do the ls -l on that directory.

Alternatively, you can cd into a directory, and just do ls -l to see what’s in it.

The number after the permissions is an indicator of the number of entries in the directory.
An empty directory will display 2 an entry for it and one for its parent.
Looks like A-Exit is empty, but A-NMAA_New has 20.

Or use the GUI file manager. You just have to get down to the right directory level, and keep clicking on the subdirectories.

I ran the following command, a few hundred lines ran through the screen, all of them - said
ownership of '/media/alex/New-SD-512/DTPictures' retained as alex:alex for each of the folders

Code:
alex@alex-nuc8i7hnk:~$ sudo chown -vR alex:alex /media/alex/New-SD-512

OK, that should do it. You should need no sudo for the cronjob. Now just wait for the next day's run. For the first week it should take awhile. Subsequent weeks should be faster, depending on how many files you add to alexfiles.
