Questions regarding CentOs 6.3 install on HyperV Remote server

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums and I'm having trouble getting a linux server up and running.

Server software: CentOS 6.3
Installed on: 2008 r2 in Hyper V

I'm new to the linux world and have been googling problems as best as I could without having to submit a thread.

I'm at the point now where I need some help and have to post somewhere!

My issue: I cannot get my network eth0 adapter on the server to install properly. I discovered that I have to turn "onboot" to "yes" but I have to set the server up as static.

First issue: Network card does not populate into ifconfig but does show up in ifconfig -a. Because of this I cannot get the card to ping any ip addresses, even the gateway.

My ifcfg-eth0:
Code:
DEVICE="eth0"
BOOTPROTO="static"
IPADDR="10.250.2.18"
NETMASK="255.255.255.240"
GATEWAY="10.250.2.5"
HWADDR="xxxxxxxxxxxx"
NM_CONTROLLED="no"
ONBOOT="yes"
TYPE="Ethernet"
UUID="xxxxxxxxxxxx"
resolv.conf
Code:
nameserver 10.250.2.5
/etc/sysconfig/network
Code:
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=localhost.localdomain
GATEWAY=10.250.2.5
Second issue: Once we get the card pinging it will only ping ip addresses but will not populate the dns searches such as "yum update" or "ping www.google.com"

When I try to "service network restart" i get the error:

Bringing up interface eth0: Device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization

This appears to be a 70-persistent-net.rules issue, i am working to correct it now.

edit: i changed the rules and now "ifconfig" properly shows the eth0 adapter without having to type ifconfig -a

however once i try to ping the gateway it still says "network is unreachable"

The following looks similar to your situation;

Although, since I'm not "The Help," I don't do Windows...

there was apparently an ip address conflict at the set ip, changed it to a few digits higher inside the vlan and it started updating!
