Need help with installing drivers for a Lucent Winmodem on Mandrake 9.1

Hi, i just installed Mandrake 9.1 on a partition, dual booted with XP Home Edition. I also have an internal 56k Lucent Winmodem and i found out that i needed drivers for it to work with Linux, i have downloaded all three drivers because i am not aware of what one i need, i need to find out which driver matches my kernel (i forgot the command on how to find out what the exact kernel version i have, i think its something like uname -r ??) Then i need to install the correct driver that matches the kernal version, but i do not know how to install this, can someone please help?

uname -a give the complete info on kernel.
uname -r gives kernel version.
Do a man uname for more info.

The drivers must be tarballs, so decompress them. Open the README and INSTALL files and read them *very* carefully. Try to do what they say. If you get into trouble, get back to the forum. Good luck!

First download scanModem.tar.gz from the same site you got the driver from and run that first. It will give you the correct tarball (there are also .rpms for this), then match it EXACTLY. Follow the .txt files that come with the driver precisely and do everything in order. You will also need to have kppp installed (but don't bother configuring it yet) as well as the kernel source from your distro. This is a very major point...if the kernel source isn't exactly matched to your kernel that is running, a build will fail. Keep that in mind. If you follow the docs..you should make out alright. Good luck!
