Unhappy mandrake 9.0 display problems

I tried installing Mandrake 9.0 on my new computer. Everything goes fine until I set up Xconfiguration (second to last step). I have a new MSI motherboard with a Nvidia NForce2 chipset, and I selected Geforce4-generic as my "server." After I select my option for the server, it sometimes goes back to "vesa". I couldn't find my Samsung Syncmaster 955 in the list, and I don't know how to set up regular vga mode. When I try the "test" option, I get some errors, theyre usually different ones (one of them is something about EE...change the config and try again). When I select OK, the screen flickers, Linux boots, and I start off in command line mode!! If i try startx, I get an error about my graphics hardware or settings.
If thats not enough problems for you, I tried reinstalling mandrake and same thing happened, but now I have 6 OS's to choose from when I start my machine (mandrake, floppy, nt, old nt, etc)!!! how do i get ride of old_nt and others i dont need?
Thanks for your help :O)

As far as your video problems go, Mdk installs a *very* generic driver for the card. Your best bet is to go to www.nvidia.com and download nvchooser.sh. Run it and it will give you 2 files to download and install. But first, read the instructions. The instructions will tell you how to install the drivers - failure to do this will stop you getting any picture.

You will need to edit your lilo to remove the extra oses.

Good luck.
