can i use more than one hostname for a linux box with a single public ip address ?
suppose
i have a machine running redhat 9 with the public ip 203.76.97.82.it is connected through eth0. currently i set the hostname ns1.itsmeblack.com
can i use smtp.itsmeblack.com,pop.itsmeblack.com,webmail.itsmeblack.com agaist this same ip address?
should i edit the /etc/hosts file or i need make vhost?

I think that you're misunderstanding something here.

What you're talking about must be host-lookup/
DNS entries ... You want other machines to know
that server under different names. That has nothing
to do with the machines hostname but with aliases
known to the rest of the net/world. If you want the
machine itself to be able to refer to itself by different
names you can edit the /etc/hosts on it, or set-up
DNS accordingly.

Cheers,
Tink
