Hostname

I am having trouble with recieving mail because my hostname is not 'example.com' like i would prefer.... instead it is www.example.com, or localhost.example.com, or mail.example.com. In turn, it reject my mail because the appropriate "User" is not found.

I can configure the hostname with "Netconfig" and I can mess with it in "/etc/hosts" but neither will allow for no hostname, they both make me put www, localhost, or mail in front of the domain. Any suggestions?

I also have a problem, if I manually change the hostname to example.com, then apache won't start. I think it dies parsing the hostname. Is there a way I can just configure sendmail to allow example.com and www.example.com

Using "example.com" is a bad idea: you are not supposed to use this name for your domain, as it is reserved for testing.

Try clicking on http://www.example.com

Use another name for your domain, such as mynetwork.xyz and try again...
