Question FIPS on slackware 8.1

2 part question.

1. I am installing linux on a pc with windows, I try to find the FIPS file on my slackware8.1 cd to repartition my hard drive and make room for linux but I can not seem to find FIPS on the cd or on the internet. Anybody got a quick link??

2. Like I said above, I have widows 98 installed on my computer. I have a 40 gig hard drive but when i go to mycomputer, goto properties on c: it only registers at 1.9 gig and the file system only says FAT. Where did my other 38.1 gigs go?

FAT 16 only supports up to 2 gig drives. The remaining 36 gigs should be freespace. Try running fdisk from your dos boot disk and see if there is some space left for your linux install that you could let Linux allocate as hda5 and hda6. If not you will have probably have to re-install Windows. Unless some one here has a simple method that wont destroy your data on the current partition. Win 98 should let you change your drive to support FAT32. I think it is Drive Converter in your Start> Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Drive Convertor. You might have to install it from Control Panel to be able to use it. If you plan to make changes to the File Allocation Tables , I would REALLY suggest doing it BEFORE installing Linux. Dont forget to defrag your drive fron windows to get all of its file "neatly" ordered in the dos partition.
