Thank you so much for your answer
I installed the latest Linux Mint to get my machine working. It has a compatibility mode that lets me bypass the nouveau drivers that stopped me from reinstalling kde neon because I have an Nvidia GTX 970.
I'd like to reinstall kde neon. I would like to know if it's possible to get past those nouveau drivers since the error messages I got listed those at least 3 times.
I have a usb key with KDE neon on it and have checked the sha256sum. I'm ready to try again. This time I'm not going to update the kernel each time it comes up because I think how I broke it in the first place. 8 packages were partially configured. I couldn't figure out how to remove or configure them. Trying to install kde, I tried adding nomodeset to the grub line, then modeset=0,then nvidia.modeset=0. The first time I tried this I had an older nvidia card. Nomodeset worked.
So may I ask how to install kde neon with an Nvidia GTX 970? Thanks again! Komack
