I have SuSE Linux 7.2 set up and running fairly good but the barcode cursor is a problem. I read in the Linux manual that it can be corrected by ... adding the Option "sw_cursor" to the Section "Device". I don't know where to locate "Device" or how to add "sw_cursor". Is it a file, command, text or what and where do I locate device. Believe me I have looked for both! ~THANKS to Anyone that can Help!~ Ray...
Thanks, CragStar, for the information you sent me. I have some screen problems also and have fixed some but it makes it hard to do the editing. What would be the best editor to use and be able to log in as root? Some editors don't allow you to log in as root or else I don't know how. Working on it! Thanks again...Ray. (nubie)
I have tried to correct the cursor by adding "sw_cursor" as an option under "Devices" in the XF86Config file but just get a cursor that drags and messes up the screen more than the barcode symbol! Would really like to have a clean cursor! Can anyone please help..? Thanks...Ray.
Sorry for the delay I have been busy! (see General Forum!)
You said that you had some display probs which suggests to me that the dragging by the cursor could be corrected. BTW what Graphics card do you have?
I would use emacs as the editor. Can you not just log in as root and then use emacs. You may not want to, in which case just use a plain txt editor. Not sure what SUSE's it though.
Thanks for getting back to me, I've been busy also. Am able to edit the XF86Config file but get the blob that trails across the screen. Video card is S3 ViRGE-GX PCI (375/385)rev.B 4meg. Monitor is Philips 109S. SuSE Linux Pro 7.2. Thanks for any help. Ray.
There are a variety of reasons I can think of. One may be that you have misconfigured the refresh rate of the monitor, or that you are overclocking the processor (has happened to me). I don't suppose you know which server you are using for X? I think there is a specific server to use. Also which version of XFree86 are you using, the latest version may be better. I can't really help any further as I have not had much to do with the virge cards...yet!
