Exclamation Assistance with SNMP on Redhat/CentOS

Hello,

I am required by a customer to set up SNMP on a redhat server. As they wish to monitor it via there own separate SNMP monitor.

I don't really have any knowledge of SNMP nor how to set it up. I have google'd until I am blue in the face but I kind of need an idiots guide really.

I.e If I can set-up a SNMP server of my own, using CentOS (Similar to RedHat) then i will be able to check that I have set-up there server.

Any assistance with ether of the above questions would be helpful.

Thanks,

I followed the guide on RedHats website:

Red Hat Knowledgebase: How do I configure an SNMP server?

However when I try the command they supply it errors saying I am using the incorrect modifiers.

UPDATE:

If I use the default config file with no modifications i get the following connection error:

there is no support the host resources MIB (RFC 1514)

snmpwalk -v 1 localhost -c public system - works fine (Bring back results now)

Just a thought, what version of SNMP are you using on the server?

also, "man snmpwalk" well help you with the proper switches and such.

also, look for an error log...
