I need urgent assistance with ftp proxying on Redhat
Here are the basic info for the Redhat 8.0 box:
eth0 > internal nic > 192.168.100.1
eth1 > external nic to dsl > dynamic ip
Has squid, apache, wu-ftp, socksproxy, among other things ruiing successfully.
Linux box serves as gateway to the internet for numerous Win2k clients.
It is essential that the clients can have full ftp access to outside ftp servers.
I have tried many things unsuccessfully, as you might be able to tell i'm new to Linux and would really appreciate some help. I have done lots of confusing reading and tried dif progs.
What iwould like is a simple on how to on how to give the clients full access to outsdie ftp servers.
I understand what you are saying. I will not do so again in the future. But i'd appreciate if you could point me in the right direction in relation to my question.

Do a google/linux for "ftpproxy". It's a nice and easy ftp proxy to setup. It also has easy to follow instructions. I think it's on sourceforge, but it has been a while since I set it up..
Thanks alot for the replies. It's a breath of fresh air since I spent about the whole day waging war with RedHat 9 and 3 NIC's. However that seems to be a whole other thread.
I've got (or more correctly had) Squid swimming quite well supporting HTML and SHTML. However I was unable to get the FTP proxing abilites of Squid going, probably due to my own ignorance. However while researching how to get Squid to proxy FTP, I came across information to the effect that Squid's FTP support was limited and I required full FTP access within the LAN so as to run software such as Macromedia Contribute on the clients. If I am wrong about this please inform me to that I may again chase the Squid.
On the topic of ftpproxy, I think it was one of the many ftp proxy servers I tried unsucessfully. However since you suggeested it, I'll go down that road again, more carefully.
By the way, is it impossible for RedHat to fully suport 3 NIC's or is it just me?
If all you got is a proxy for Inet acces then any clients that have a valid IP gateway etc. shoud be able to use any INet protocols that are going. ftp ncluded . Have you set up so the only cnonectivty is throuht the proxy? It a depends on how much control you have over the network. At end of the day FTP has noting to do with squid( depending on your network) if you don't want it to.
oops posted too late

If I understand your question correctly, the Linux box is setup as the gateway to the internet, ie. all the clients has the ip to the linux box (192.168.100.1) as their gateway.
Well I jsut treid ftpproxy. I downlaoded the current release, and did the usual make, make install routine as told ot in the INSTALL file. I then proceeded to make a file name ftp in the xinet.d folder using a sample script I found on the ftpproxy.org. I restarted xinet.d and did an nmap and found no new ports open. I then proceeded to ty the beta version available, same issue.
I'm now running RH 9.0. What could I be missing?
