Unhappy networking problems


well i m using redhat 9...i just switch to linux like couple weeks....well ...i m now facing ..with a networking problems....the thing is i don't kno how to use file sharing with (win and linux)....i use samba..but the thing is ..i c my other window pc with my linux computer but the window pc cannot c...and ....i can only c the window pc was there but...when i connect to that pc it ask me about user name and password...but i don't kno what to type in..and....if any 1 wanna help me sort out this problem i would be really appriciated...

samba from the command line can be tough. I've gotten it to work much like you have it... can see windows from linux but not linux from windows. I'm going to take home linneighborhood tonight and try it out. it might be able to help you too.

start at the beginning - 1.if your using swat reset defaults in smb.conf
2. set workgroup in smb.conf and windos to the same name
3. edit /etc/hosts in linux to show windos computer name and IP
4. share something in windos
5. run command ] smbclient -L (windos name)
6. when prompted for password, press <enter>
7. did you see list of windos shares?
