IM and other connection problems

After changing my ADSL router I was almost unable to connect to any server from my Linux (Ubuntu Dapper) machines, although with Windows there was no such problem. Disableing IPv6 in /etc/modprobe.d/alisases solved most of the problems. Now I can again access websites, but I am still having problem with some other services, particularly with connecting to the MSN and Google Talk networks using Gaim.

If I just start Gaim, both fail to connect. If I ping the Google Talk server (specified in the account's properties) prior to the login attempt, login succeeds. If I do the same with the MSN server I still fail to connect.

Why do these problems still happen and how can I solve them?

I didn't make any change, but now I can't connect even to google. Perhaps this ping provides a clue as to what the problem may be? The first IP is that of the router.

PING talk.google.com (1.0.0.0) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 212.25.109.253 icmp_seq=1 Time to live exceeded
