Connection problems

Okay I'm new to linux like most people here it seems, I'm running mandrake 10.2, i have two network cards and on-board one which broke (some of the connecting pins between the adapter and the board are broken but due to the construstion of the board i haven't had the time or patience to re-solder or see what i can no) and another one which is a PCI Daviscom 10/100 its connecting to a cable modem through a router (linksys wirelessB) but I'm actually hardwired in Cat-5 and all i have eth0 adn eth1 (eth0) being the broken one, Ive gotten it to stop trying to send information for the most part, and i have eth1 both sending and receiving information but it will not establish a connection which makes no sense to me, what can i do or what have i done wrong, for it to both send adn receive information on the same nic but not actually establish a connection, also if its makes a difference i set the network up as a LAN (I'm in japan and they way they run ADSL here is kinda awkward, it isn't password username sending at login, it functions more like an always on cable modem, except every 24 hours it'll shut you off and you hafta log into there page to regain access TY for the help in advance, id really like to switch over to linux once it gets online that faster the better

Why don't you disable the onboard network card in the bios until you can fix it?
What do you use to connect to the internet? pppoe?
Is the connection established but you can not send or receive anything? If so, maybe its a routing problem or a firewall problem.
