[SOLVED]Installed Mint 10 but still can't tether !!

The UMTSmon correctly recognizes my mobile phone with operator info and signal strength etc but I can't tether my phone in Network Manager. It says "Unable to open device /dev /ttyACM0"

When I try UMTSmon, it o/p "PPP could not make a connection"
And a window which gives the following error report
Code:
PPP could not make a connection

PPP stderr -
auth Require authentication from peer
connect <p> Invoke shell command <p> to set up the serial line
crtscts Use hardware RTS/CTS flow control
defaultroute	Add default route through interface
file <f>	Take options from file <f>
modem Use modem control lines
mru <n> Set MRU value to <n> for negotiation
See pppd(8) for more options.
When I had Mandriva back in 2009, my Sony Ericsson mobile had some issues in connecting but in the end I managed to get it done using the control center. On the other hand, now I have the Samsung Wave which very different. But the old Ubuntu 2009.4 can tether both the sets easily from the live cd. I'm typing this from FF running from the live cd infact !!!

Here is the connection information @Ubuntu's networking Manager !
Code:
Interface GSM (ttyACM0)
Driver cdc_acm
BTW,my system info:
Code:
PCLinuxOS 2010.12 KDE minime
AMD Athlon 3200 64bit
640 mb Ram
Asus K8S LA motherboard
Update:
I tried Wvdial. It connects successfully but immediately disconnects !
Says "modem hang up" and gives pppd error 16.

I don't know what to do !!!!!

Btw, I don't have Kppp, only pppd and pppoe and two other files !

I read somewhere that renaming 'ttyACM0' to 'ttyACM' might help. But I don't know how can I do that !!

I noticed from the wvdial log that pppd successfully used CHAP to authenticate. Just 3 sec later, connection is terminated, "Modem Hangup"

Unhappy

Used the 'Sakis3g' script to connect but the result is the same !

This is frustrating !!!!!

What is wrong with ppp ?
Does this occur as I'm running a stripped down KDE desktop (PCLinuxOS Minime) ?

Pleas, please....PLEASE say something

I have installed Mint 10 in the hope that it can tether coz its based on Ubuntu (Ubuntu 7, 8, 9 could connect easily !!). But nothing is happening even though I entered exact connection setting as in Ubuntu.

It is really frustrating !!

.....and no replies...still !!

Should I install Ubuntu ?

I have the full details of the connection under ubuntu like ip adress, dns server adress etc
So, is it posdible to set up ppp manually with these info in Mint itself ?

SUCCESS AT LAST !!
I managed to get it connected after renaming the device name "ttyACM0" to "modem", sweet !!!

Gnome-ppp rocks !!

BTW, here are the settings I used to get it connected !
Quote:
number - *99#
username - null
password - null

Type - usb modem
Device - /dev/modem
speed - 230400
Phone line - tone dialling
Init string - at+cgdcont=1,"ip","bsnlnet"

ip - dynamic ip
dns adress - auto dns

autoconnect
abort if line is busy
abort if no dial tone
check carrier line
check defualt route
ignore terminal string (Stupid mode)
