USB Lan adapter no longer recognized in Ubuntu 18

I have been using a generic usb ethernet/LAN adapter without issue for some time. I am not sure how it happened, but it is no longer recognized in dmesg or lsusb. I confirmed the r8250 driver ko is installed.

Previously there was an "enp0s25" interface in ifconfig, but now there is not. I just have lo and wlp for wifi now. Adding a new interface in networkmanager gui did nothing, restarting did nothing.

lsmod and dmesg do not show the driver loading.

Is the only explanation for this that my adapter dongle went on the fritz at a very inopportune time? Checked eth cables and they are fine.

Checked these articles and others like them but nothing seems to describe what happened.

People who make laptops with only wifi should be sent to prison. That said any other ideas what I could check here? tia

Edit: also I am unable to post to the general forum for some reason, can anyone tell me why? Also unable to submit bug report, and I would send an email to admin jeremy but his is not posted, only platforms that I do not use for ethical and safety reasons.

I have to ask the obvious questions...

Did you install any updates recently?

What happens when you unplug and reconnect the adapter? Have you tried switching USB ports?

Also unable to submit bug report
I assume you are using the contact us link at the bottom of the page? If so are you seeing any error messages when you click the send button?

Thanks for answering, it was a faulty dongle.
