Toshiba A15-S1292 Overheating Problem

Hi,
I'm running Fedore Core 2, with kernel version 2.6.8.1. I enabled ACPI, and most everything works well. The laptop fan should have 3 fan speeds, but the fan is always set to low speed, and wont ramp up. This causes a problem when the CPU usage goes up. the system will overheat and shutdown. Is there a way to set a fan speed using ACPI, or would I do better to try and use APM. The BIOS may handle the fan better with APM, but I really don't know. Any ideas or pointer?

Thanks

Hi there !!!

Try using toshutils, there's a small application to turn on the fan on and off.
Maybe you can set the speed of the fan also.
Here's the link for the webpage.

Hope it helps.

Ok, I figured things out a little. First, ACPI needs a lot of work in linux. Second, which modules to compile with the kernel. There is a Toshiba module in the processor config for the kernel. This is a driver for the older Toshibas. I orginally loaded it and the Toshiba ACPI module. They seemed to conflict with each other. I recompiled the kernel, just loading the Toshiba ACPI module, and everything seems to work fine now.
