My laptop keyboard is disabled during startup

Hi, i am using a BenQ s42 laptop. The specs are as below:
Intel core 2 duo 2.26GHz
4GB DDR-II ram
9600M GT 256MB GDDR3

the problem that i am facing now is that when i boot up using live cd, or try to install with alternative cd, after the OS/setup started up, i was not able to use my keyboard at all. I was using a USB mouse, and it was working.

i think i should mention this. Before this, i flashed the bios before so that my laptop can work fine on windows XP. I do not know if the problem is cause by the bios.

Can anyone help me please?? Please tell me what kind of information to provide, and i will try my best to post it here

I would imagine the problem is related to the proper usb support not being built into the kernel at boot time. Does your laptop have a traditional keyboard ps/2 port that you can plug a keyboard into long enough to install the OS and then recompile the kernel if necessary?
