Sound - Asus A7N8x Slackware

hi guys
well i've just got my dual monitor setup working, and so now i've just got to get everything else set up.

i downloaded the alsa sound driver from realteks (sp?) site for the motherboard.
and i followed the instructions, completed successfully.

rebooted like it said...and the sound worked BUT

it was so faint...i had to turn my amp up nearly full so i could hear it.

so i went into the sound mixer thing in slack10. and went to adjust the nforce2 master slider.

SILENCE... as soon as i adjusted it the sound just went dead...and i couldnt get it back.

anybody got any ideas?

thanks guys
Kane

the sound seems to come back fine after a reboot of the whole system.

but is still faint.

yep ...and it still kills the sound whenver i adjust the "Master" control in the Nvidia Nforce2 Alsamixer,

tried to install drivers from asus's site for the nforce2.

rebooted and no sound, so i reinstalled the alsa drivers from realteks site.

and now i still have no sound.

when i ran alsamixer -c1 and look next to the master control they are on full but it says [OFF] next to it

wooohooo

i think im on a roll

managed to finally get it working with the nvsound driver from nvidia.

first time i tried i got some kernel erros or soemthing. and read a post on here which said something about its cos alsa is running.

so i did /etc/init.d/alsasound stop

or something like that

and then retried and hey presto.
all i needed to do then was modprobe nvsound
(i have no idea what these commands do lol - i know its something like loads the nvidia sound module ...but i dont know what a module is :P )

but in the doc's it said i should add it do modprobe.conf ... well i opened it up ...and it was blank
