setterm does not power down LCD monitors
how the heck do i get this setterm command to turn off our LCD monitors? for many years on perhaps some 30 machines i tried to get this working w/o prevail. in the mean time i use slackware v12 under runlevel 4, currently with the default SMP kernels, with grub 0.97 and vga=791 framebuffer, and a linux_logo after boot. enabling acpid, restarting rc.acpid, inserting video module and such doesn't help. most monitors used are expensive 21, 22, 24inch or larger LCD biests. cards are usually some flavour of FireGL or Quadro FX. any combination with the parameter settings of setterm was tried , starting with slack's default in the /etc/rc.d/rc.M file:
/bin/setterm -blank 15 -powersave powerdown -powerdown 60
nothing helps, monitors blank after a while, but do not power down.
any input appreciated, bye, pisti
