Installed RedHat Linux 7.2 a few days ago, everything is pretty much fine apart from some minor problems. I can't print anything at all - tried from Konqueror (using KDE interface BTW) , Kate and the printer config window (print test page) - all come up with the following error:
---
A print error occured. Error message received from system:
/usr/bin/lpr -P 'HP' '-#1'
/root/.kde/tmp-localhost/kdeprint_S4CF11a:
execution failed with message:
Get_local_host: hostname 'localhost' bad
---
OK, this might seem obvious to a few but I just can't see what's going on here. HP (above) is the name of the printer. The printer I am using is a Hewlett Packard DeskJet 890C - when I was first installing the printer, it recognised the printer type propelrly and presented a list of drivers for me to use... I chose the first one on the list , as the help file (inside KDE) suggested... when it didn't work, I tried em all out - gave the same error.
OK, I got the printer to work, just added a line with
127.0.0.1 localhost
to /etc/hosts, but now I have another problem to deal with - the printer does not position the text/image/whatever on the paper correctly... it prints way too far up the page. I printed a test page from the printer config screen and it basically had all these images and text, surrounded by *supposedly* two boxes - one 1 cm in from the edge of the paper, the other 2 cm in. Now I can't see the top two borders at all... I can't see the lowest border either, but the test page says that isn't unusual so I don't consider that to be a problem atm. But the top border really does worry me.
I've made sure that whenever I print, I have the A4 layout and there are no other relevant settings I could see... what should I do to fix this problem?
