Problems with HP all-in-one printer

Hi,
I am new to Linux -I'm using Novell Linux 9.3 Pro and loving it- and have a problem with my HP all-in-one printer. Well, the problem is not with the printer itself, but the scanner.
Linux detects the printer, but not the scanner. When I try to open the HP-toolbox application, the system returns an error message that reads, "No all-in-one device found", but when I print a document the printer works fine; it is the scanner that is not being detected by Linux.
The all-in-one model is HP Officejet 7130xi
Does any one know what could be causing this problem and how to fix it?
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance

I wish I could answer your questions, but as I said, I'm new to Linux and don't even know what CUPS and SANE are.
Could you be more specific please? I appreciate your helping me, but need more detailed explanations. I know that my printer is supported by Novell Linux 9.3 Pro, I know this for sure.
Thank you very much.

Sane - Scanner interface for Linux

Cups - Common Unix Printing System

Sane is an implementation of USB/Para Port Scanners. This will help some programs, such as Gimp Import from some Device.

Cups - The best and most configurable Printing Interface tool for Linux.

What is your Desktop?? KDE or Gnome? I am not too sure how to find the "Control Center" in Gnome but there are two ways to add a printer in KDE, on the KMenu look for settings/printing manager and set CUPS as the default Printer setting, then add a printer and select local, look for your Printer Model on the List KDE generates. Then go in and setting it up should be pretty easy from there.
