Linux and Mobile Device

Hi all,

I'd like to connect to my mobile device(siemens c35) from fedora core 2 kernel 2.6.5.I connected via data cable and usb-serial adapter.
Is there any other way to check whether my handphone was connected to my notebook beside minicom and wvdial??
Is it possible my data cable not supported by linux??Because I have tried using minicom and wvdial and I get zero result.

Regards,
Sam
