Question CentOS 4.3 will not use a USB thumb-drive on a Dell Optiplex GX240

Hello,

I have CentOS 4.3 running on a Dell Optiplex GX240 (256MB, P4 1.7GHz). I am trying to get the OS to recognize a USB thumbdrive. I have tried the manual /mnt/ commands, but was unable to achieve any results.

I am not sure what kernel I am running (how would I find out?)

The lspci commands do not produce any output other than "command not found."

The OS came from a Linux Format Magazine DVD (July 06).

Besides Ubuntu, what USB thumb-drive friendly distros are there?

Thanks

/F

When you plug in the drive use the command ' dmesg ' to see if it is seen. Post output
For kernel use the command ' uname -r '
Also as root use the command ' /sbin/fdisk -l ' to see if it is seen.

Could post the commands you tried to see if using them properly.

You have to be root in order to be able to issue some commands . You can run
de command¨ /proc/ver* this will let you know the version of Cento´s you are running and the kernel too . Also uname -r
