CD-ROM issues, or IDE issues?

Hi Had an old CD-ROM drive in my Linux system that stopped working. Didn't think anything of it....

Decided to replace it a couple of weeks ago - still doesn't work?

eject - doesn't even work.

So - perhaps it a device issue somewhere. Otherwise, maybe my IDE controller is shot - then again - perhaps I should just chuck the old Pentum ( 233MHz ).

I've searched in this forum, and the most promising info I've found was

/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=104734

about the /etc/devfsd.conf

Not sure what to do with this, so I figured I'd ask if anybody has any ideas.

If not, thanks for reading this anyway.
