Adding unpartitioned space to /dev/sda

I recently added 4 new drives to a pre-existing Raid5. The drives are not visible to "df" or KWDISK. The drives were stripped into the pre-existing RAID with no problems. LVM shows the newly added drives as unpartitioned space. The only option in LVM is to Initialize Block Device. The button for "Initialize Entity" is grayed out. Tools->Initialize Block Device prompts me for the "Path of Block Device to Initialize" The prompt is empty . I'm very hesitant about entering in /dev/sda

LVM shows 500 Gig under unpartitioned space
Partition type=none
Mount pont: unmounted
File System: No File System
Not Initialized: Partition manually
SCSI ID: NONE
