SuSE Server Issues

Hi

I'm running SuSE 8.2 on two machines. I have masquerading configured OK but would like some help on some other stuff.

1. I would like to setup DHCP on my router machine. Is there a graphical tool for doing such a thing or have I got to start up vi.

2. I want to configure DNS locally. Is there a graphical tool for this or have I got to start created named.conf etc and creating zone files myself.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

1. You should be able to set up a DHCP daemon from Yast2. Try the Basic Networking.

2. I don't think SuSE has anything for configuring a DNS server. I'd poke around Yast2 just in case, but I think you've got to create your own zone files.

DHCP can't be done through yast, you need to edit the /etc/dhcpd.conf file by hand. There are 2 or three examples of config files in /usr/share/doc/packages/dhcp-server/examples.

I worked off the "simple" example and then added options after I got it working. You also need to make sure you running dhcpd. Check this in the runlevel editor in YaST. You should set the server to a fixed IP or use the mac address. Webmin also has a module for this, but I have a tough time with webmin for some reason.

HTH

Oh, and DNS is set up through YaST under network servies.
