Question Sound volume very low

I had my sound working absolutely perfectly, and now it is sooo low I cannot hear it unless the pcm and master volume are up all the way and then it is just under comfortable listening. Any ideas, its working fine, just really low volume. Its gotta be some stupid setting somewhere. I plugged headphones in and same thing, so its not the speakers. Please help

I kept trying all the kernel's i had installed on my computer, and when i finally got back to the 2.6.5 kernel, it worked. I would rather use a newer kernel, but I dont want it to stop working again. If it stops working I will definately try that.

In kmix, in advanced mode, try activating "IEC958 Monitor In".
If this doesn't solve your problem, try activating or deactivating some of the "advanced" options.

thanks for your post, but i actually fixed the problem and forgot to post the answer. I notice there was a scroll bar on the alsa mixer and i went over to the far right and found VIA DXS. There are actually four of them named the same thing. I turned them all, all the way up and now it works fine.

I am however still having a problem with sound in both mythtv and tvtime. I have the cable hooked up properly, and it was working for both of them before, but not anymore. If anyone knows why please let me know. Because it stopped working for both of them, i think its a sound configuartion isssue rather than a program issue.
