Question Recommend Linux Distro?

Hi, I would like to know what distro of linux do you recommend me for Celeron 600, 128 Ram, 2 GB of HD, and monitor that doesn't support the 1024X768 pixels just support the 800X600.-

Thanks

your specs are not extreme enough to make certain distributions and worse or better than the next. use whatever you want. it's what you actually RUN that will matter, i.e. blackbox instead of KDE and so forth.

I have Redhat 8.0 running gnome but the display on the screen appears somewhat like double or tiple image.

What can it be? Should I try another distro? Which would you suggest?

Thanks a lot

You sound like you just need to try other window managers. Try Enlightenment or Fluxbox

I know what you mean.
One of my machines has a monitor that does 800x600.
Both KDE and Gnome manage to produce windows with buttons out of screen.

The previous posters are right, though.
You don't need another distro, you need another window manager.
I use fluxbox on that particular comp. Works great.
I use enlightenment on another one. Works great too.

If you worry about memory, you should be careful which programs you run and how many of those simultaneously. Again, that is not a distro issue. Your machine is far too powerful to consider a minimalist distro. Also, memory is cheap...

Cheers,
Jan

Jan,

You seem to be using SuSE. Have you tried running SaX2 which will allow you to align your screen.

It's one of the best tools SuSE supplies.......

Hi,

Yes, I have tried sax2. It works beautifully.
It is just that SuSE sometimes produces windows that are too big for the screen or placed in such a way that the button row at the bottom is out of sight.

That particular machine is now running Debian/fluxbox, so it is hard for me to reproduce anything to test configuration.
My main box is running SuSE/enlightenment, but with a 1024 resolution, so no problems there.

My next projext is to see if I can get something meaningful working on an old 386 that I got lying around here. Guess I will have to go minimalist there.

Cheers,
Jan
