Problem with the dual boot, doesn t find the menu.lst

Hello,

I have on my computer with win xp pro and a Red Hat and yesterday, i didn t manage to boot. When I turn on my pc, i arrive at the black screen and i have the command prompt for the grub.

so i try to reinitialize the grub by doing:

find /boot/grub/menu.lst
.. it wrote (hd0,2)

after i typed:

root (hd0,2)
setup (hd0,2)
quit

now i have only a black screen and nothing else..

Could you help me please

What you did was to put GRUB on the boot sector of hd0,2---ie the 3rd partition of the first drive. I am guessing that it was on the mbr--if so, this should not have changed anything.

What version of RedHat are you using? Do you have a live CD?

What is on the other partitions? (I assume Windows on #1)
