Network write/read Speed meter

Anyone have a suggestion for a network read/write speed benchmark? I'm thinking about building a SAN but I want to benchmark what I have to compare it. I used to have a tool that looked like a speedometer that would read/write a continuous line of junk to a network share. It was a cool util, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was. Thanks again for the help!
