Lilo crashes after a fresh Mandriva 2007 installation
Hi,
I have a 20GB hard drive on which I previously had WinXP. I wanted to test a fresh installation of Mandriva 2007 (I already have two machines with Mandriva 2006 installed, but I needed to experiment before actually upgrading). I'm quite familiar with the system, but for the first time in about 10 years, lilo won't boot!!
So far I've tried the installation twice: lilo just starts printing its first L and then a series of 99 99 99 99 ... That's it!
I tried FIXMBR from the WinXP disk (thinking the boot block might need some cleansing ;-) before re-installing lilo, but in vain. The Rescue Disk on the Mandriva DVD didn't help, I'm afraid.
A minor detail (I think ...): on trying to re-install lilo from the Rescue Disk, it starts by stating that the type of the hda drive is unknown, but then it recognises the partitions on it as linux (83) and linux swap (82).
Any idea what's wrong or missing? Your help is sorely needed, and much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
