KDE launches unwanted programs at startup

I have a simple problem that I just cant seem to find and answer to. KDE crashed at some point and I had to kill it. Ever since then whenever I start KDE all the programs that were running at the point of the crash start up. What can I do to get things back to normal?

Thanks

Gentoo kernel - 2.4.24
KDE 3.2.1

Go into the Control Center -> KDE Components -> Session Manager then check the Start with empty session logout and back in.

I have had the same problem with unwanted programs starting up with kde. I tried going to the sessions manager and checking clean session and logging out and back in. No change, the programs still start up and my Sessions Manager is back to having the previous session box checked. Any ideas what to try next?

Anything in your .kde/Autostart directory to be started on boot? Or even checking in the .kde configuration directory that is where all the setting are kept to see if you can find the file responsible maybe even move the .kde directory to a backup then logout and back in to have new default configuration files created.
