Problems with Starcraft and WineX

When I play Starcraft, the lag is unbearable. It's not my internet connection, because it lags over the LAN too.
I'm running WineX 3.2-1, Fedora Core kernel 2.4.22, and my computer is a 550mhz P3, with 512mb of RAM.
Starcraft ran fine until I installed Brood War, but after installing Brood War, both the original and Brood War lag. It doesn't lag for a singe player game, but it does over any multiplayer game.
Any ideas?

I found the problem - three programs (wineserver and two instances of wine-pthread) were running in the background and using ~100% of the CPU.
I killed them and it worked fine, does anyone have any idea what they do?
Killing them didn't affect any of the programs running with WINE, so I'm not sure what they're for..

They are running "unseen" in the background if wine couldnt shutdown properly for some reason...
