[yes i got 3.2.8 drivers and when i install them i get this error
$ rpm -Ui --force drivers.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
XFree86 >= 4.3.0 is needed by fireglrx-4.3.0_3.2.8-6]
OK, what you need to do is the same thing, except run -nodeps on that file. I personally ran into some trouble with that particular driver. What I did instead was I went to schneiderdigital.com (not ati.com) and get the newest 3.9.0 drivers, from the fglrx-4.3.0-3.9.0.i386.rpm file. I installed with rpm -i --force fglrx.rpm. It runs without a hich. MUCH better than the previous drivers.
Hey y'all, I saw this thread and I knew it was for me. It has taken me forever to get it right. Anyway, what you want to do is go to schneiderdigital.com (not ati.com) and get the newest 3.9.0 drivers, from the fglrx-4.3.0-3.9.0.i386.rpm file. (I know it's only a .i386, but the .i586 doesn't work). If you get an error about not having a build or something, install your source files from urpmi. If it says something about versioning... Uninstall your kernel build environment, and then reinstall it, then try the fglrx drivers again. Finally, when you do fglrxconfig MAKE SURE TO PUT THE SECOND CHOICE, it says something about C++ I think, if you don't you won't get jack for frames. Good luck, I hope it works as well for you as it did for me. I have a Radeon 9700 Pro and I get about 3882 fps in glxgears, and about 50 fps in UT2004.
System:
XP2500+ (OC'd to 2700+)
1.5 GB of RAM (@ 333 mhz)
Radeon 9700 Pro
Nforce 2 Board
Hi there.. i just bought a 9800PRO but it seems that was a bad idea
I have the 3.9.0 drivers from the ati.com site (its there now) and i get really bad framerates in ut2004 too. fxlgears gives me 4300fps, but ut still drops to 20fps on onslaught-maps. I have a AMD2000 and with my geforce 3 i got better results than with my ati 9800.
First of all, I want to clear it up that I didn't mean schneider-digital.com, it's really schneider-digital.de for the schneider drivers. Anyway, I have tested the schneider drivers, and the ati drivers... They appear to perform the same. It might actually even be the same file. Anyway, if you want to try the newest drivers, go to ati.com and get them. They work MUCH better than the 3.7.6 drivers. Although, I have not tested anything else, maybe older drivers will get better fps?
i dunno if ne 1 could help me but i have tthe ati drivers installed on my comp, every thing 2d/3d works fine but i cannot play ut2k4 in full screen. Why is that, is it only me, i have an ati radeon 9000Pro all-in-Wonder with 64mb ddr2 ram. I find it strange. and also, occassionally when i play ut for maybe an hour, i start getting madd artifacts and the fromes drom from 30~40 to 1~7. Then everything in the game becomes pastell and it is unbearable (wish i had a screen). Why is that, and it is only this game too!
ATI's linux drivers suck.
Their 3D performance is terrible in comparison with their windows drivers.
Solution:
Stick to Nvidia cards if you're a Linux user
Last week I bought a nvidia 5900xt, and I was very dissatisfied with the performance under linux, and under windows. I just picked up a ati 9800pro 256mb and I plan on getting this to run. I'll wai to get good linux drivers from ATI if I have to.
