/dev/input/js0 not appearing

I'm trying to hook up my psx gamepads, but they're not working so well.

I've got the joydev kernel module loaded as well as HID, the 4 port multitap controller shows up in a lsusb, I get messages in dmesg when I connect it, but no js* dev nodes. Not sure where to go from here, thinking about blaming the multitap and calling it a bust.

Help appreciated.

So, you have an adapter that lets you connect PlayStation controllers to USB, and you are using that with a multitap and separate controllers? Does a single controller work without the multitap?

Hrm. Maybe I misspoke. What I have is two controllers and a 4-port USB adapter.

Single controller connected to the adapter thing does not work either.
