I have no idea if it is legal or not, the files aren't in .drs format so it's hard to say. Check the Licence Agreement to see if there is anything against it. I know that you aren't allowed to decompile/reverse engineer anything but these are just files in a different audio format.

This is taken from the Rise of Rome EULA. I guess you have to get permission from Microsoft before you can use the files.

Quote:
4.COPYRIGHT. All title and copyrights in and to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT (including but not limited to any images, photographs, animations, video, audio, music, text, and “applets” incorporated into the SOFTWARE PRODUCT), the accompanying printed materials, and any copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT are owned by Microsoft or its suppliers. All title and intellectual property rights in and to the content which may be accessed through use of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is the property of the respective content owner and may be protected by applicable copyright or other intellectual property laws and treaties. This EULA grants you no rights to use such content. If this SOFTWARE PRODUCT contains documentation which is provided only in electronic form, you may print one copy of such electronic documentation. You may not copy the printed materials accompanying the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.

I contacted Ensemble Studios and they said that the music just can't be used for commercial purposes.

Interesting. Free Empires is just going to be a Free GPL Game so that means we could use it

If you want, give us your name and we will say thanks to you in the About. This is a Big Help

You don't have to quote me but my name is Chase Taylor. Does the game being free mean that it isn't being used for commercial purposes? If so, that's great and I will send you the files when I get the chance to gather them together.

lmao then Chargh quotes that. But it is true that you don't need to quote a message if you are directly responding to it.

No but since the source is GPL other people can make ports.

So, I say it is good manners to quote at all times. It would then always avoid confusion.
