I get steam and stuff to install just fine but when it updates it will freeze at 26%. I have tried doing what linux-gamers site suggests in the how to but it doesn't work. If someone knows a way that has worked for them could you please tell me? I have also tried copying my steam folder from windows but i get the same error at 26%. Please help me, I am so close to getting all my favorite games to work on linux.
I am sorry if this has come up in the past but i couldn't find one.
There are 19 pages for that error and all i found in there was spyware that i know is not on my comp. I looked anyways but found nothing. Steam fourms are not much help and neither is steam.
If it is any help the error is:
~~~~~~~~~
Program: Z\home\user\steamTmp.exe
File:\p4clients\rel_beta\Projects\Common\Misc\Win32Registry.cpp
line: 447
bCloseRet==0L
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
//then says "you can only run one copy of steam at a time"
~~~~~~~~~~~
Program: Z\home\user\steam.exe
File:\p4clients\rel_beta\Projects\Common\Misc\Win32Registry.cpp
line: 447
Are you using just regular wine? This as far as I know does not work with Steam. It took transgaming a few months to get Steam working well with WineX and Point2Play. Transgaming subscriptions are cheap, and cvswinex (which steam also works with) is free.
I have a friend that did the exact same thing i did and it runs fine. I know it works this way and I know this is a steam bug but i just dont know how to fix it. And steam does start so it works with wine, I just cant get past the update because of steam its self.
I have the exact same problem. If anyone knows anything please let us know. There is another thread regarding the same subject that I've been listing on at : http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...78#post1507778
I have a screenshot showing the errors as it's updating and the error when it crashes. Maybe if we can put our heads together between both of these threads, we can figure something out. Thanks.
Sorry I've been so long getting back to you. Been busy. I'm not sure which tree you're talking about but my wine installation is in "/home/<username>/.wine". Is that what you wanted to know? I'm not familiar with how the CVS thing works. Could you enlighten me. I did a CVS thing in school awhile back but I don't remember a thing..........LOL. Is it free? If you've already completed this by now then how did it go? Did it work? Thanks.
Also, I saw that Age of Empires 2 was rated in the top 20 for compatiblity at winehq, so I figured I would install my AOE2 and see if it would work and to see if it would give me any clues along the way. Well, it installed seemingly perfect, but when I tried to play the game it shuts down, crashes, disappears, or whatever you want to call it. Anybody have any ideas on that? I'm gonna check the error log and see if it was trying to get a file and couldn't, maybe that's why it went. I'll let you know what I find. Meanwhile, if anybody out there has and insight on this matter, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.
