In my case, I would like to utilize my old Pentium III to become PC router and firewall.
1. First, I will construct temporary tool complete with GCC (chapter five)
2. In chapter six
-> Linux API Headers
-> Glibc, Zlib, File, Binutils
-> Only Libstdc++, no GCC
-> For the rest, just compile packages needed
-> Linux kernel
3. Some package in BLFS, like iptables, sshd, network maneger, and any packages needed would alse be compiled in chroot environment.
I only have old 4 GB hard drive and 128 MB SDRAM on my old Pentium-III.
I think it should be enough to run PC Router and Firewall.
Because the hard drive capacity is so small, so I should not install to many packages.
Only few packages required to build the system (and of course it required dependencies).
Most program would search for glibc & libstdc++ besides their dependencies,
so I think it would be OK not to build GCC in order to save space.
All programs build in chroot, and it will be linked to glibc and libstdc++
in real system (I will build this system on my i5 laptop).
Please enlighten me again, whether this would work or not.
Or I must put GCC to make the system works.
