I have a question:
using the command 'uname' I find '2.4.18-e.43smp', so my operating system is Linux Enterprise 2? The machine is Itanium, IA-64. Would it be possible to upgrade to Linux Enterprise 5, and if yes how could I do it keeping old files intact.

No, 2.4.18-e.43smp is the kernel version you are running. Try cat /etc/release to see what release of Linux Enterprise you are using.
First off, you should not be putting this thread in the Suggestions & Feedback forum, this is for stuff about the site, second off, there is no "Linux Enterprise"
Welcome to LQ, & congratulations on getting into something like uname on your 1st post.
Unfortunately, AceofSpades19 is right on both counts: you're in the wrong forum & there is no such thing as "Linux Enterprise".
Go look at the list of fora here, pick the one you really want, then report your post to ask a moderator to move it. Please do not start a new thread, that's against LQ rules.
You probably meant "Red Hat Linux Enterprise", or RHEL for short. Be warned it can really annoy the rest of us who use other distros to see terms used that imply that Red Hat == Linux. Also, remember that before there was RHEL, there was plain Red Hat Linux, "RH" or "RHL". They are not the same & both start their version numbering from 1, so don't call RHEL "Red Hat Linux".
