Fedora 15 boot time errors

Hi all
I've posted my problem in this post before http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-n5110-905603/

and if you go there you will find that user camorri gave me some "google results" (Which I knew already).
the first one is about configuring the touchpad under ubuntu (I'm using fedora) that assume my touchpad node in /dev is psmouse which is not.
and the other one is talking about some intel mouse (not touchpad).
so I followed them assuming that camorri knows the problem well since he did not give me any reply later (which is a stupid decision) ....

then what happened that my Fedora 15 crashed and refused to boot again, so I went to the refuse mode and removed xorg.conf and the Fedora did boot again.

but with some strange message that says (0000:01:0.0 Invalid ROM contents)
and some other messages at boot time I could not catch...

so I removed my previous installation and installed a new fresh Fedora 15

and the same error keeps coming

please help me

I'm very confused about this error ....

Going off your first post, it seems like your touchpad does not work as expected. I have a Dell 15r 5010 with Fedora 15 KDE installed, and everything works fine. The only thing I had to do was go to KDE System Settings,Input Devices,Touchpad, and set-up scrolling and tapping the way I like. If you use Gnome I'm sure there is an equivalent setting. If your system boots and functions correctly, maybe the errors are harmless.

thank you for your replay jayfree
Unfortunately GNOME 3 has no option like these ...
My touchpad is working greaot except for scrolling and in Activities > Applications > Mouse and Touchpad has no option like this
and I just found that my kernel 2.6 identifies the touchpad as a Generic mouse, maybe this is why I have no options for scrolling

If you could help me I'll be thankful

post the relevant part of /var/log/xorg.0.log (or attach it)

If it is wrongly identified then it would be a bug

also check behaviour with compiz disabled.

How does it work in kde?

Well, the package above displayed that I've a PS/2 Generic Mouse.
It seems like a kernel level failure to recognize the touchpad as a generic mouse.

If anyone know anything about fixing this please help

Maybe it's something with xorg-x11-drv-synaptics, is it installed or need to be reinstalled? Try entering
Quote:
rpm --verify xorg-x11-drv-synaptics
See what it says.

You should try to install it and see if it works, if not your notebook may have an ALPS touchpad, which is some other problem I've heard about from a couple of other linux users I know. If thats the case we may have to go deeper to solve the problem.

Entering this
Quote:
dmesg | grep pad
in a terminal window should produce something like this
Quote:
[ 1.800425] Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1, fw: 7.2, id: 0x1c0b1, caps: 0xd04733/0xa40000/0xa0000
if your touchpad is Synaptics, if not you should probably post your problem at fedoraforum.org. I am waiting to here from some fellow fedora users to see what they have come up with. PS my 15r 5010 must be Synaptics and not ALPS cause it just works.

anyway thank you jayfree .... I will follow the link you posted.

and I will post how to fix it if someone figured it out.

a little notice it is www.fedoraforum.org/ not www.fedora.forum.org/
